     Introduction

The now college of Agriculture and Natural Resource, the then department of Agriculture was established under Addis Ababa University College of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture, Salale campus having four programs (units) under it, namely Animal Science, Plant Science, Horticulture and Agricultural Economics in 2005 E.C. This department has taken students for four consecutive years and students are graduated for two years, i.e. 2007 and 2008 E.C. However, due to long questions of the community and the plan of the government to expand higher institution, the then Addis Ababa University College of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture, Salale campus was changed to Salale University and the department of Agriculture is changed to Faculty of Agriculture and the units are changed to departments in July 1, 2008 E.C. Based on this, it received one hundred thirty (130) 1st year students in his name and two hundred seventy one (271) 2nd and 3rd year students from Addis Ababa University College of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture, Salale campus. In 2009 there were one hundred fifty nine (159) graduates. In 2010, in the four departments and newly established Natural Resource Management department it received five hundred thirty one (531) new students in General Tadesse Biru Campus. Based on the opening of Natural Resource Management department and assuming the programs to be opened in 2011E.C. It changes his name to College of Agriculture and Natural Resource.

College of Agriculture and Natural Resource is one of the colleges which is found under Salale University, which could contribute for the development of agriculture sector of the country through giving training to the graduate students at this time. The college also starts to do research and community service. The college has currently seven departments under it namely department of Animal Science, Plant Science, Horticulture, Agricultural Economics, Natural Resource Management, Water Resource management and Rural Development and Agricultural Extension. The college aspires to be center of excellence in dairy science and technology for the future as Salale area is one of the potential area which have high cross breed animals and milk production. It will work also for the betterment of breed, Animal health, feed and management of livestock of the area; plant & horticulture breeding, agronomy; Natural resource conservation and enhancing value chain system of the agricultural sector through research and community service in general.

After its establishment in Salale University, the college has graduated one hundred fifty nine (159) and one hundred four (104) regular students in 2009 and 2010 E.C in four departments namely Animal Science, Plant Science, Horticulture and Agricultural Economics in the name of Addis Ababa University college of Veterinary medicine and Agriculture.

The college currently has nine hundred five (905) students, four hundred eighty six (486) male and four hundred nineteen (419) female. Out of this one hundred eleven (111), sixty three (63) male and forty eight (48) females are 3rd year graduating students from Animal Science, Plant Science, Horticulture and Agricultural Economics departments.
