College of Social Science and Humanities is one of the colleges in Salale University that has become serviceable in 2018. The college commenced its exertion enrolling 110 students under three departments namely Geography and Environmental Studies, Sociology, and History and Heritage management. In that year, it had only 33 academic and 2 administrative staffs.

Following the need assessment result, the college has opened 6 new departments in 2019 such as, Social Anthropology, Law, Civic and Ethical Studies, Afan Oromo and Literature, Amharic Language and Literature, and English language and Literature. And currently it has 9 departments in total. The college has embraced various and polygonal disciplines that are attributable to a diversified and multifarious source of knowledge and skills. This year, therefore, the capacity of the college has reached to enroll 644 students, both in regular and continuing programs.

Aiming to improve the quality of education and raise students’ satisfaction, the college has managed to address shortage of lecturers in 2019. Thus, more than 50 new academic staffs were contained within the college in this academic year. At present, the competency of college of social science and humanities is backed up by qualified and motivated academic staffs of 89, of which 5 are being profiled as assistant professor, 70 lecturers, 8 graduate assistant and 6 others are on study leave to pursue PhD.
