Welcome to Salale University’s (SlU) Official Website,It is my great honor to serve as the President of Salale University, and I am deeply inspired to work alongside the dedicated and enthusiastic staff of our institution. I firmly believe that education is the most powerful tool to drive national progress and improve lives in all dimensions. It serves as the foundation for all forms of advancement, achievable only when access and equity are ensured.
With this vision, and guided by our motto, "Co-Creating Quality," Salale University was established in 2015 in Fiche town, North Showa Zone, Oromia Region, located 112 kilometers from Addis Ababa. Since its inception, SlU has been steadfastly committed to its three core missions: education, research, and community service. The University began its academic journey with nine undergraduate programs. Today, it offers more than thirty undergraduate programs, and we have finalized preparations to launch postgraduate programs in various fields by 2020. Our region, North Showa, widely known as "Salale" for historical reasons, is uniquely positioned, bordered by two major tributaries of the Nile River—Mogor and Jama—as well as the Nile itself. This area has attracted significant attention from researchers and academics due to its potential mineral resources.

The Ethiopian Journalist: Nation Builder and Solution Seeker Salale University recently hosted a public lecture examining the professional identity, roles, and challenges of Ethiopian journalists. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Terje Skjerdal of NLA University College, Norway, widely recognized as one of the foremost scholars in African journalism studies. Opening the lecture, Salale University President Dr. Feyera Dinsa warmly welcomed attendees and underscored the importance of engaging with distinguished international scholars. He emphasized that such events enrich academic growth, broaden the perspectives of students and staff, and strengthen the University’s commitment to nurturing competent, ethically grounded journalists capable of contributing to society and national development. Prof. Terje Skjerdal shared key insights into Ethiopian journalists’ educational backgrounds, professional values, gender dynamics in newsrooms, and their perceptions of their role in promoting peace, development, and nation-building. In his lecture, titled “The Ethiopian Journalist: Nation Builder and Solution Seeker,” he explored how journalists understand their mission within Ethiopia’s evolving media landscape. Drawing on years of field research, he highlighted the defining traits of the typical Ethiopian journalist, including a commitment to public service, social responsibility, and addressing community challenges. The lecture brought together members of the University community, including senior leadership, academic staff, and students, fostering a lively discussion on the future of journalism in Ethiopia. Participants actively engaged with Prof. Skjerdal, raising questions about professionalism, impartiality, safety, and the pressures facing journalists. At the conclusion of the lecture, Dr. Feyera Dinsa expressed his sincere gratitude to Prof. Skjerdal for sharing his extensive research and valuable insights. He also conveyed his strong desire to strengthen ties with Prof. Skjerdal and NLA University College, exploring opportunities for future collaboration in research, academic exchanges, and capacity-building programs that would benefit both institutions.
