Background

The Department of Midwifery was established in 2010 E.C. with a small faculty and just 47 students. The department has 18 staffs: 2 assistant professors, 9 lecturers, 5 assistant lecturers which are on study in different disciplines and 2 technical assistants. BSc in Midwifery (regular and post-basic) and MSc in Maternity and Neonatal Health are the two programs offered by the department. The department has 116 undergraduate students and 29 post graduate students.

The department is working to do its part in training health care practitioners who will work at various levels in Ethiopia to reduce maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity.

Vision

  • Aspires to be a leading and making all the students pass national licensure examination by 2025.

Partnerships and Collaborations

We are collaborating with the Oromia Health Bureau to train students at the BSc and MSc levels.

Research

The research focus area of the department is mainly on maternal and neonatal health.
