1. BACKGROUND OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Statistics, under the college of Natural Sciences (CNS) was established in 2011 E.C/2018/19 with 58 total number of students and 6 total number of academic staffs, located in Fitche town at Jeneral Tadesse Biru campus about 112 km from Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia.

The core areas of the department are teaching, conducting researches, and providing community. Currently our department has about 26 second year and 15 third year students enrolled in undergraduate regular program. This department has eight academic staffs and one supportive staff (TA). The department had graduated it’s 1st batch with BSc degree in Statistics since 2013 E.C/2021 with a total of 33 students. Since its establishment, department of Statistics passed through a series of stages of development and challenges. To sustain the progressive expansion of the CNS and to keep pace with the growing demand for efficient, effective and quality services, the department constantly pursues standard of excellence in teaching, research and community services by working alone and other departments.

Further, to improve and ensure quality of education, 6 instructors have completed, one is on training and one does not take HDP training. On the other side, only one academic staff on ELIP training and the rest do not take the training.
