Salale University, under the Ministry of Education, was established in 2015. The university has expanded different Colleges to fulfill the objective of the university. College of Natural Science established in 2016 as a three years course of natural Science education and started by Biology, Chemistry, physics and Mathematics. Up to January 2021, Computer Science staffs are under department of mathematics. The growth in demand for Computer profession in the country created an opportunity to start a separate department for Computer Science.
Therefore, In February 2021, the college will be expanded to include Computer Science and Sport programs that the undergraduate program is intended to cover four years.
The Department of Computer Science at Salale University was founded in February 2021 with 7 lecturers, and three graduate assistance, and 5 technical Assistance. Following the establishment of the new department in 2021, nineteen regular students and 105 + weekend students in Kuyu and fiche site were admitted to the department. It was followed by a more than a twofold increase of regular student enrollment in 2022. And also we have.
Computer Science department is one of the fast growing departments of the university with the objectives of providing research and Community services. Since its establishment in the year 2021, the department has had primary responsibility for teaching undergraduate Computer Science courses for the students in the department of Computer Science and other service courses within the College of Natural Science and other Colleges of Salale University. The department offers computer oriented practical courses using its fully equipped separate computer laboratory having 40 personal computers.
Computer Science is one of the eight disciplines within the College of Natural Science under Salale University. The department is striving to provide Motivating Environment for the free development and Exchange of ideas.
The vision of the Computer Science Program, College of Natural Science at Salale University is to be the prime center of Computer Science Education and research in Ethiopia.
The mission of the Computer Science program is to offer an outstanding, professionally oriented undergraduate Computing education and conduct applied research and consultancy service that will bring qualitative change in computerized industry and technical services in Ethiopia.
- Increase relevance of undergraduate program to the industry
- Diversify the undergraduate programs in the areas related to Computer Science
- Increase diversity, quantity and quality of academic staff and technical assistants
- Increase industry supported researches and consultancy activities
- Increase attractiveness of the Program to students
Computer science department have only B.Sc. in Computer Science in regular and weekend.

Research and Community Service
In this academic year Computer science proposed to deliver three researches and five community services. From this two researches and five community services approved by research and community directors. Therefore, computer Science instructors now a day to start his/her work properly.
Now a day computer Science department has two computer laboratories, one is computer science lab and another one is Common lab it is called ICT lab found in Block 004 floor 4.
