Overview

 The Public and External Relations Directorate is established under the office of the President with the major tasks of creating, consolidating, planning and implementing effective communications and strategies for/with the university and its audiences. The directorate will support the university in conveying its vision and communication priorities to appropriate audiences. Moreover, it is responsible to perform numerous activities like unifying and aligning communications, creating communication plans to mobilize specific audiences to respond, understand and organize communications messages in a way that best reflects the university priorities, and ensuring high-quality and highest impact communications are created for both internal and external audiences of the University. The Directorate, therefore, drives communication strategies and implementations to support the SlU’s effort to become a recognized and conspicuous university. The Directorate recently has only five members. For the sake of strengthening its task, the office will be established with various team and units in the near future.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

The Public and External Directorate typically oversee communications in and outside the university, and it also represents the university to the public. Moreover, it has the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop strategic plans for one or more of the following areas: digital, print, social media, branding and design, and/or other areas as assigned.
  • Work in collaboration with management and other colleagues to create effective communication that reflects the university priorities.
  • Lead, appraise, evolve and develop the strategic communication initiatives in harmony with the overall institutional goals.
  • Manage relationships with external resources as assigned, which may include printers, photographers, designers and other creative services.
  • Plan, budget, monitor and produce deliverables.
  • Lead creative teams in content production for communications streams.
  • Respond to clients’ and colleagues’ expectations
  • Keep abreast of new trends in communications, especially in higher education.
  • Oversee, train, evaluate and assign work to staff members as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Coordinating events, and making presentations.
