Debre Markos University, Hawassa University, and the Fiche Research Centre. This marked the first training session offered by the college, which was open to all interested individuals in an online announcement and registration.
In her opening address, Shewadinber Mekonnen, Dean of the College, highlighted the significance of DSSAT training in equipping agricultural professionals with tools for data-driven decision-making, advanced research, and enhanced teaching and outreach. He noted that by simulating crop growth and management, the training supports sustainable agriculture, addresses climate change challenges, and prepares students for modern agricultural demands. Its impact extends beyond academics, benefiting local communities, farmers, and the broader agricultural sector.
The training, which focused on crop and climate modeling, was led by Dr. Girma Megersa and Dr. Dagne Kefeni from Salale University's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, along with Mr. Girma Asaffa, a lecturer and researcher from Haramaya University.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Tsegaye Deyou, Vice President for Academic and Research Affairs, emphasized the importance of such training in tackling global challenges like air pollution and environmental degradation. He stated that the knowledge gained helps professionals address climate-related issues, optimize germination conditions, and develop effective solutions. The training not only enhances participants' skills and motivation but also contributes to academic and research development. Dr. Tsegaye praised the collaboration among universities and underscored the value of continuing such programs. He expressed gratitude to the organizers and participants for their contributions.
